Frequently Asked Questions

How big does our church have to be in order to qualify?

Any church of any size can win the Courageous Leadership Award.

Does our church have to be a member of the Willow Creek Association or affiliated with World Vision in order to win the award?

No.

Does it cost anything to apply?

Absolutely not. The only thing necessary to apply is a completed application.

What is the deadline for applications?

The deadline for the 2008 award is April 1, 2008. All applications must be postmarked by that date or they will not be considered.

If my church was awarded an “Honorable Mention” on 2007, can we re-apply to win the 2008 award?

Yes.

When will we be notified of the 2008 outcome?

All applicants will be notified by June 30th at the latest. Please don’t call or email Willow Creek Association or World Vision for your status before that date.

If our church wins the award, can we use the funds in any way we want?

100% of the money awarded must go toward the AIDS budget of the church for ongoing AIDS work (not to the missions budget or the general fund of the church) and a report of how the money was used will be required.

Will there be a Courageous Leadership Award next year?

Yes. We plan to give away at least one Courageous Leadership Award every year in August at The Leadership Summit Conference in South Barrington, IL.

Will the Courageous Leadership Award always be for AIDS work?

Not necessarily. The Courageous Leadership Award in AIDS may be one of several awards given out in the future. In time, Courageous Leadership Awards may be given in other categories as well, but always to local churches spreading hope to our world in the name of Jesus Christ.
