Children Care for their Dying Parents

11 with her mother, Din Leng, in a rural Cambodian hospital.
Sreypeuv and her brother Sokroun,13, first learned their mother
was sick six years ago. Shortly after their father died as
a result of HIV/AIDS, their grandmother informed them matter-of-factly
that Din Leng, then 27, also had the disease. But it wasn t
until 2002 that the disease took its toll on her immune system and she
began to suffer frequent bouts of influenza. Last fall, she became so ill
that she had to be hospitalized. "I
feel so sad and sorry for my mother," says Sreypeuv. "I ask myself why
my mother has this disease. I wish someone could cure her.
