Gloria and Monica in front of their hut, with neighbours‚ huts in the background
Gloria Akidi, 13, Judith Piloya, 11, Miriam Achola, 8, and Monica Ajok, 3, are
a family of orphans. Their father died a few years before their mother, who
died of AIDS-related illness. After being bedridden for a year, she was tested
and found to be HIV positive. During the whole time she was ill Gloria, as
the eldest child, had to look after her mother and the rest of the family.
Now Gloria and two of her siblings go to school with the help of World Vision
Uganda KURET (Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Together), who take care of
all their school needs to make sure that they have an uninterrupted education.
Other World Vision projects such as the care and support project provide them
with food, while the Area Development Programme (ADP) caters for their medical
needs. Clothing is normally provided from Gifts-in-Kind also sourced by World
Vision.
